In PSC Exam, the Preliminary Competitive Examination is designed only to choose appropriate candidates for the Main Competitive Examination and the questions shall be answered by contenders on an Optical Marks Reader (OMR) sheet. Marks obtained in the Preliminary Competitive Examination by the applicants, who may be declared qualified for taking the Main Competitive Examination, shall not be reckoned for determining their final order of merit.

An ex-serviceman of any state domicile should be allowed to subtract the period of his service in Armed Forces of the Union from his actual age and if the resulting age does not go beyond the maximum age limit prescribed for direct appointment to such a vacancy in the Service Rules concerned by more than three years, he shall be deemed to satisfy the condition regarding age limit.
